Initial Teacher Training

ITT provision forms an integral part of the trust’s philosophy to develop leadership at all levels from the initial steps into the classroom and beyond. ITT programmes such as School Direct, Teach First and PGCE form the foundations of a developing professional support programme to be developed and supported by the Trust as part of our“Grow Your Own “philosophy”.

We work hard to establish close links with our providers. We have successfully trained Teach First participants over the past five years and annually host a three-day training event as part of the Summer Institute. We regularly liaise with welfare officers to ensure participant well-being and are praised for our levels of support and commitment. As testament to this, we now have Teach First participants in their first and second year plus ambassadors.

Likewise, we offer ITT routes through School Direct and SCITT. As the lead school, we facilitate interviews and ITT placements across trust schools. We also organise and provide “Taster Days” for those who are considering this route.

We are in partnership with several University PGCE providers and adapt our in-house programmes accordingly. Our bespoke ITT programme is a multi-faceted support mechanism progressing from an individual, departmental, whole school to Trust wide context. As well as providing the existing weekly mentoring sessions, departmental time devoted to developing teaching and learning, we provide weekly timetabled periods to develop ITT pedagogy and practice Trust wide. This will allows students to network with other ITT participants and observe good practice in a range of contexts.
