Lesson Study

Cycle of lesson study

Lesson Study

Lesson Study is a process that Japanese teachers used to engage in to continually to improve the quality of their teaching and learning in the classroom. It is a classroom based inquiry strategy in which a group of teachers collaborate to plan, teach, observe, evaluate and share the findings of a single lesson. Teachers choose 3 case study pupils and attempt to identify learning challenges that may slow or inhibit learning. Once the challenge has been identified, teachers use a lesson study model to test various strategies that may overcome the learning challenge and support the student?s learning. The plan, do, review cycle is a continuous process that allows teachers to really unpick the difficulties and complexities of learning.
